As the 2017 season has come to an end, here are the 2017 Pickering Red Sox awards winners as chosen by their peers.  Congratulations to all

MVP: SEAN MOLONY:

Sean had an amazing year for the Red Sox.His abilities on the field were not the only reason he captured this award. He has transformed himself into one of the Red Sox leaders on and off the field. His statistics only tell half the story. His ability to make the big play in the field, come up with the big hit, or crack a joke at the perfect time to help his teammates made him the unanimous choice for Red Sox MVP.  Not only was he recognized by his teammates for his great year but he was voted by his peers in the GTBL as the League MVP.  Congratulations Sean on an incredible campaign.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: SEAN MOLONY:

Sean had a great year at the plate for the Red Sox.  He led the team in many categories and his stats speak for themselves. He led the team in AB (174), Hits(71), RBI (52) and average (.408). He was second in SB (23), HR (3), had 12 doubles and a .540 slugging percentage. Congrats Sean.

PITCHER OF THE YEAR: MARK CHEESEMAN:

In what may have been his final year of Senior Baseball, Cheese had once again an amazing campaign and captured this award again. Once again leading the pitching staff in many categories, the 40-year-old once again came up big for the Red Sox. He led the team in innings pitched (58). ERA among starters (3.41), had a WHIP of 1.34, had 7 wins against 3 losses, and struck out 28 batters on the campaign. He kept hitters off balance and allowed his defense to do their work. Capping off his great season and career, Cheese started game 1 of the GTBL finals and pitched a 1 hit complete game victory against the Thornhill Reds. He proved to everyone this year that he still is one of the best to pitch in Senior Baseball.  Congratulations Cheese

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: MIKE RODRIGUEZ:

Once again Pudge captures this award as the top defensive player as voted by his peers. Mike has solidified the catching position, has the trust of all his teammates to handle the pitching staff and the game in general.  His ability to shut down the run game, read batters and manage pitchers makes him a invaluable commodity to the Red Sox. Pudge not only contributed behind the dish but also played the infield when called upon. He also came up with some big hits at the plate for the Red Sox and capped off a great year for the team with an opposite field 3 run homerun in the final inning of the year to put the Red Sox up for good on their way to capturing the GTBL Crown. Congratulations Pudge

MOST IMPROVED PLAYER: ILYA BOZINOVSKI:

Ilya had an amazing sophomore season with the Red Sox.  He contributed both on the mound and at the plate with some big hits throughout the season showing the rest of the team that he will be a contributing factor in years to come. At the plate, Ilya batted .359, had 2 home runs, 23 hits, 15 rbi’s and had a slugging percentage of .531. On the mound he contributed in late innings shutting down teams in big situations. He won 3 games on the season and saved 4. Congratulations on a great season Ilya.
