The Pickering Red Sox and Newmarket Hawks battled in a home and home affair that saw great pitching, good defense and two hour games!
In Newmarket, Steve Horsley got his first start since 2017, pitched a scoreless inning and then handed the ball over to Ryan Clark, Patrick Vecchairelli and Corey Jeffrey. They all pitched well on this night and kept the Sox in it but unfortunately the Hawks pitching shut down the Red Sox offense over the nine innings. The only run by the Red Sox was scored on a sacrifice fly in the 9th inning. The final score on the night was 4-1.
The next night in Pickering, the Red Sox won another tight contest 3-2 Once again bolstered by pitching, Sean Slemko pitched 7 scoreless innings. Mark Cheeseman pitched a scoreless 9th to preserve the win. Mike Foster and Drew Roberts led the way on offense with 2 hits a piece. Jeremy Marinelli made 2 diving catches to help preserve the win for the Sox who have a week off before they travel to Thornhill to take on the Reds.
